Maybe a new trim level to commemorate the last model year before this popular compact crossover SUV gets a full redesign. Expect a new Escape for the 2020 model, with fresh styling and slightly larger dimensions. That leaves the 2019 edition of a lame duck that shows its age versus the top rival in this hot market segment.
Ford will not be able to do anything about Escape’s most obvious shortcomings today, such as its rear seat that challenges space. But we urge manufacturers to improve the Escape safety feature for 2019, especially by improving its autonomous emergency braking system with the ability to stop – not just slow down – crossover to reduce frontal collisions.
Especially to see if Ford carries a security system following the segment leader, almost everything has been redesigned since the Escape generation debuted for the 2013 model. See the section “What are new features?” Below for more about security issues.
If not, there is little reason to wait for Escape ’19. This will be a close carbon copy of ’18. Additional color options or two may, along with possible new appearance packages. But the style itself will repeat the cosmetic updates that come with a refresher of the 2017 model. And the restrictions on special end-generation editions, lineups, features, and powertrain must be the “18 year old replays.
Ford Escape will see minor updates for the 2019 model. The most important changes involve new equipment in the style of SE and SEL and dragging around the choice of exterior paint. Certain features also cannot be explained being stopped.
2019 Ford Escape Exterior & Interior
For 2019, Ford will no longer offer LED tail lights in Escape. Blue, Cinnamon Glaze, Shadow Black and White Gold exterior colors have all been stopped, replaced with new colors Agate Black, Baltic Sea Green and Sedona Orange.
Inside, popular SE classes will get the SYNC 3 standard, giving buyers a better level of connectivity with smartphones. Ford also made smart keys with push-button start and standard start over long distances in the SE and SEL models.
Surprisingly, Ford will no longer offer a navigation system either on SE or SEL. For that, you have to upgrade to the Titanium range-topping class, where it’s standard. The buyer will also not get one CD player in the coming year.
One of the most important packages is the Sun & Style Package on SEL that adds panoramic panoramic roofs and 18-inch silver-painted Sparkle wheels. Titanium trim offers a Safe & Smart Titanium Plus Package that features automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, blind spot warning, lane-keeping assists, panoramic roofs and more.
2019 Ford Escape Engine & Specs
There is no possibility. The S-leased-fleet S must return to 2019 with a rough and dirty four-cylinder 2.5-liter engine with 168 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque. Look for SE and SEL to repeat a turbocharged 1.5 liter four with 180 horsepower and 185 pound-feet of torque. This provides more than enough acceleration if it is far from fierce. The Apt to be exclusive to Titanium is a 2.0 four turbo with 245 horses and 275 pound-feet of torque. It must also be among the more powerful machines in the competitive set, with aggressive properties that complement the impressive Escape handling.
A six-speed automatic will remain the single transmission Escape. SEs with Sports Appearance Packages and Titaniums with optional pull packages must have a longer paddle steering wheel, along with a less comfortable standard shift-lever button, allowing the driver to control manual gear types. Expect AWD to remain available on all but the S model. This system is intended primarily to increase sidewalk slippery traction by dividing up to 100 percent of the engine torque back when the sensor detects the front tire slip. This will add to the awesome dry-road handling baked in Escape based on its virtues in Ford operations in Europe. However, where road manners are a point of sale Escape, newer rivals such as the CR-V and Mazda CX-5 are easily suited to overall handling and tranquility but in a more modern package.
